SBL Round 3: Al Ahly defeat Al Fateh

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Al Fateh (2-1) in Jeddah on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by Al Ahly (3-0) 72-61. Al Ahly made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Al Ahly outrebounded Al Fateh 49-28 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Devin Ebanks (206-1989, college: WVU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Deandre Liggins (198-1988, college: Kentucky) contributed with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Al Ahly's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mohammed Alsaqer answered with 19 points and 9 rebounds for Al Fateh. Al Ahly's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Jeddah to the arena Al Ittihad.
Another exciting game for Al Hilal (2-1) which played in Al-Awamiyah against Al Salam (1-2). Al Hilal upset home team edging them after exciting game by three points 80-77. American players dominated the game. It was a great evening for power forward Clinton Chapman (208-1989, college: Texas) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Mark Lyons helped adding 19 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was forward Nick Stover (198-1993, college: USA) with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Al Hilal will play against Al Ansar (#11) in Medina in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Salam will play on the road against Al Fateh (#3) in Al Hasa to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Medina between Ohod and Al Wehda. Ohod (2-1) got a very close home victory over Al Wehda (1-2). Ohod managed to escape with a 1-point win 81-80 on Monday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Tyrik Armstrong who led the winners and scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Brian Halums came up with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Al Wehda in the defeat. Ohod will meet Al-Taawon (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Wehda will play against Al Adalh (#12) and hope to win that game.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: Al Ittihad beat Al Adalh on the road 81-80. Al Ansar lost to Duba Club on its own court 76-89. Al Nasr managed to outperform Al-Taawon in Riyadh 91-75.



Al Adalh - Al Ittihad 80-81

But Al Adalh was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Jeddah 81-80 on Monday night. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Mathna Almarwani (186-1992) who led the winners and scored 28 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Serbian-Montenegrin forward Milko Bjelica (207-1984, agency: BIG) accounted for 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Russian forward Andrey Semenov (200-1990, college: JMU) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and Tunisian swingman Islem Elajmi (196-1991) added 11 points and 7 assists respectively for Al Adalh in the defeat. Four Al Ittihad and five Al Adalh players scored in double figures. Al Ittihad's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Jeddah Al Ahly.

Al Ansar - Duba Club 76-89

There was a minor upset when Al Ansar (1-2) lost to Duba Club (1-2) in Medina 76-89 on Monday. It was an exceptional evening for Ukrainian center Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-1994, agency: BIG) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. American guard Unique McLean (188, college: SFC, agency: Blacktop Management) accounted for 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. American forward Gerard Tarin (206-1996, college: Nova SE) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import guard Daishon Knight (185-1991, college: Illinois St., agency: BIG) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Al Ansar in the defeat. Duba Club will meet Al Nasr in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al Ansar will play against Al Hilal (#4) in Riyadh and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Guard Mark Lyons (185-1989, college: Arizona) helped adding 19 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. Four Al Hilal players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Nick Stover (198-1993, college: USA) with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists and center Anthony McClain (211-1988, college: Cincinnati) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Al Hilal will play against Al Ansar (#11) in Medina in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Salam will play on the road against Al Fateh (#3) in Al Hasa to get more than just one victory in their record.

Very predictable result when Al Nasr (3-0) won against on the road Al-Taawon (1-2) 91-75 on Monday. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Brandon Austin (198-1994, college: NW Florida St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import forward Antonio Campbell (206-1994, college: Ohio) accounted for 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. American guard Darious Clark (193-1990, college: Slippery Rock, agency: Domantay Sports) came up with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian power forward Aleksandar Marelja (207-1992, agency: BeoBasket) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Al-Taawon in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Nasr will meet at home Duba Club (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al-Taawon will play against Ohod and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Strangely Al Wehda outrebounded Ohod 43-31 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Tyrik Armstrong (178, college: Texas Southern, agency: MSG) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import forward Jordan Washington (203-1993, college: Iona, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Four Ohod players scored in double figures. American guard Brian Halums (196-1997, college: UAFS) came up with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Mohammed AlMarwani (206-1989) added 8 points and 17 rebounds respectively for Al Wehda in the defeat.
